Another pretty laid back day. In the evening pre-Nyepi celebrations started so we watched the rowdy Hindu groups parade their Demons down towards the beach. There was an excitable atmosphere and everyone seemed to be enjoying the day. We started on the beers at 3pm and went through the night!
you can watch all you like boys, the surf ain’t coming
02/03/2011 another surf related injury….
-Result of getting out of Medewi on a outgoing tide, shallow water, loads of hidden (apprently spiky) boulders waiting to strike. After scraping my board up nicely i managed to smack my knee into a hidden boulder. The amount of blood gushing out of it and the looks of the faces’ of the locals made me think it was worse than it was. I was having trouble bending it and walking so that kept me out of the water for another week and i can now name the surf breaks i’ve been too by the scars on my feet and legs!
No surf again! So we met up with the girls, jumped in the back of the Kijeng and safaried up the mountains! The roads were steep and windy the whole way up but the views spectactular. We were so high at the end we were level with the clouds. You could feel the drop in temperature as we pranced around in our mini shorts eating pisang goreng on the side of the road which we ordered with Pop Mie, Fig cakes and peanuts using our limited Indo skills.
Up at 5am again so we could be out of Kuta before it got busy. Had to maneuver our peds from about 3 rows back outside Suka with our womanly muscles was a noisy faff but with a sigh of relief finally got boards on and ready to go when it started spotting rain. We decided to just go for it until, 100m down the road it went from spotting to torrential downpour. We pulled over at circle K and watched our stuff getting drenched on the bikes. 20minuteslater we made a bread for drain lane to get sexy ponchos, best move ever! Ponchod right up we were ready for mission Medewi. It rained on and off non-stop the whole way, had to dodge some dodgy lorries, stop helmets falling down and had to pull over 3 or 4 times to just laugh at how ridiculous we looked in silver ponchos. 4 and 1/2 hours later we made it and were pretty pleased with ourselves!
24/02/2011 What to do when your bed has no covers and theres bugs falling through the thatched roof over your head?
-get in your board sock and don’t come out
Own peds in tow me and Kama set off for our first freedom tip and headed up the windy roads to Bnut Bolong. Bnut Bolong is a huge sprawling tree with a road running through it. Nothing spectacular but pretty cool and the journey up there was incredible.
You wind your way up the mountain curving in and out on the crazy empty roads. The palm tree forest either side of you and the tiniest of hill villages with simple warungs and simple lives. Such a fun ped ride.
19/02/2011 3ft fun Medewi
-only got a few waves this day but it was a perfect size for me and was finally glad to be getting some good waves in Bali.
