Helsinki wall art (March’08)
I took a short trip to Finland and Estonia to visit a friend. I spend two days in Helsinki and I’m pretty sure it was my first experience of staying in hostel on my own. I didn’t take many photos in Finland, this is one of the very few.
Beautiful Paris- views from the Eiffel Tower(April’09)
i love that you can see buildings right up to the horizon
My Travel Bucket list…
In no particular order:
1.Explore the ‘Pacfic Islands’
-After reading paddling the Pacific (Paul Theroux) I have my heart set on exploring these islands strewn across the Pacific Ocean, by any means.
2.Watch ‘Pipe Masters’ on the North Shore
- I spent a week on Oahu in April and got to see Pipeline, Sunset and Waimea but as it was out of season I saw them pretty flat. I would love to watch the Pro’s ripping in pumping waves during the ‘Pipe Masters’
3.Volunteer in a foreign community
-I’m not sure where yet but I would rather do it off my own back than as part of a company but I would really like to make a difference to a community if its possible.
4. Starbucks In Seattle
-I’m a big fan of Starbucks and would like to drink a cup of my favourite coffee in the site of the 1st Starbucks.
5. Get Barreled! in a bikini
-If you’re a surfer you get it. I wanna get barreled in a bikini, so that would be somewhere warm!
6.Trek the ‘Inca Trail’
-Peru was in my original RTW plan but decided to postpone if for a later trip in which I could involve all of S.America. This trail looks pretty sick and the view at the end- unbelievable.
7.South America
-Talking about Peru I want to travel around the whole of South Ameica, I’d like to have unlimited time to see it. Definitely not a continent to rush…
8.Highest bungee jump
-I’ve conquered the Verzasca dam but apparently its 13m short of the Worlds highest so that’s next on the list
9.Lifeguard In Australia
- I love my job. I work for the RNLI as a beach lifeguard in the Summer in Cornwall, UK so to make it a year round job would be huge for me. I want to experience the Australian lifestyle for a season. I had the best time in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast so this would be my first choice for working.
10.Work on a ship/sailing boat/yacht
-This is a fairly new discovery but it’s a very strong possibility for me in the next couple of years. I can’t think of much else better than living and working on a boat whilst traveling the world.
11.Flight Lottery
-I talk about doing this all the time but so far I haven’t accomplished it. Basically you just turn up at the airport with a bag and your passport and find the cheapest next available flight and get on it.
12. Spain
-Considering I live in Europe and all these amazing places are on my door step I have hardly ‘traveled’ it. I very much want to get a van/car and just drive my way round Spain maybe working along the way. Again, no time-limit would be best.
13.New York
-Its New York! Everyone should go there once in their lifetime.
14. Dog Town, California
- One of my favourite movies of all time is ‘Lords of Dog town’ so I have to go check out where the Z-Boys grew up, skated and surfed. Getting a surf in here would be a bonus.
15. Learn a language
-Probably in a lot of people’s bucket list. I really want to put the time and effort in to learning a language thoroughly enough to speak it fluently or at least comfortably converse with the locals in the chosen country. I’ve given up on German for the time being and my current language mission is ‘Indonesian’. I’m hoping I can stick to this otherwise Hawaiian is next on the list.
16.Madagascar
-I had a small obsession with visiting this country a few years back which was weird because I didn’t really know anything about it. I still don’t and I still want to visit it. Don’t you just love the unknown.

17.THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT THE END OF THE LIST…..
I spent a few days in Cologne in April this year and found this bridge with thousands of locks attached. The story is that people (usually couples) attach their padlock to the bridge and it stays forever. There are all sorts of shapes and sizes with paint, engravings or writing. I suppose you could say all the locks make the bridge look ugly but when you look at what it represents it makes it almost beautiful. This is what the world needs, public spaces dedicated to love….aaawwwwwwwwww
