river crossing, dirt track driving quad-biking
10/12/2011 10days in one place gave us itchy feet so we rented a quad. We set off towards Playa Hermosa to see what the waves were like, it felt good to be moving, wind in our hair, flying over the bumpy gravel tracks. We headed towards Hermosa and then up a steep hill where we got an incredible view of a a-frame breaking somewhere in the distance. Further down the track we were off-roading,...

Night-time bike ride with no breaks
02/12/2011 We wanted a little explore so we hired some bicycles with cool paint jobs but no breaks- to stop them you have to cycle backwards. We had plans to meet a freind the other end of Mal Pais but for some reason we thought it would be a good idea to go at night. If anyones been to Santa Teresa or infact a big chunk of Costa Rica you,ll know the roads, well, aernt roads. They are dirt tracks,...

Mission: find somewhere to live for a month
01/12/2011 6am and we were walking along the beach (in the wrong direction) to check the place ou. After a pancake breakfast we heading in the other direction for a solid 2 miles in the rising sun, which apparently is hotter between 9am and 12pm than it is in the afternoon, to check out some places. A few hostles and house viewing later we found Playa Cabinas which was perfect for what we needed....

Costa Rica: The journey there
30/11/2011 Vernon picked us up from our Hotel in Manhattan (after 2 hours sleep) at 330am and dropped us at JFK. Being sleep deprived meant it took us about 15 minutes to try and work out how to print our fricking boarding pass! Our effort was rewarded when the lovely! Jet Blue lady let us check in our boards for free!
Flight to Orlando- horrendous. Just could not sleep and was hating the stuffy...

flip-flops in rainy Manhattan
29-11-2011 Miserable weather in Manhattan but we trooped on (for some reason i trooped on in flip-flops) and squeezed both of us through the barrier at the Subway station and headed to the ferry terminal for Statten Island. The outward journey was cramped, everyone squishing together to try and take a photo of the tiny Statue of Liberty in the dismal weather. The way back was much more relaxing...

and the shopping begins....
27-11-2011 First stop after the hotel was Starbucks for my one and only New York Starbucks which i thought I should ge out of the way so i coul tick it off me list of things to do. Then we started day one of three days of epic non-stop shopping. We made a massive error by attempting Macy´s- The Worlds Largest Store. We lasted about 15 sweaty minutes before we hop skip & jumped out of there. We...

Flight VS0003
27-11-2011 After getting our newly crushed boards out of the bus at 530am we stumbled roughly in the right direction until we found our terminal. Check in was a breeze apart from a ESTA misunderstanding. Boarded the flight early and was far too happy with having freebies…Virgin Atlantic is oh so much better than my usual Air Asia Flights! Even more impressive was the free vodka cocktail at ...

Last day/night of Winter 2010/11
01/04/2011 A pretty uneventful day. I’ve been to Chinatown too many times now. More shopping. more bags of Milo than you can shake a stick at. We played ring of fire, sang and listened to guitar, drunk more vodka, stumbled to a reggae bar, got stranded on the dance floor by a Norwegian guy, drunk a little bit more vodka, had a screaming match with some chick in the hostle who said we were...
Jungle Trek....ATTACK!
30/03/2011 What better way to cure your hangover than a trek across the middle of Tioman island through thick jungle full of dinosaurs and insects for 3 hours. Me, Josie, Hugh and Trevor set off on a mission and got to experience real Tionam jungle. Hiked up a load of stone steps, climbed under and over fallen tree logs, splashed in streams and got bitten by crazy mosquitos. We reached Juara...

Island life (plus vodka)
29/03/2011 Josie and I hooked up with some Canadians and fellow English men/women and went for a major trek to get beer! We all chatted on the way to the big duty-free alcohol supermarket in Tekek. After sunbathing and pineapple fried rice we all found a little bar with wooden decking looking out to sea so we had a few beers before going back to the terrace to neck vodka in pure English pig style!...

Kuala Lumpur (again)
26/03/2011 So stupid o’clock arrived and me and Josie were whisked off to the airport to sleepily board our plane to KL. Had a hellish time hauling all our stuff around KL before following a guy to Birdsnest hostle, which apart from the Sahara temperature, was cute and cosy with cats and iguanas hanging around. Spent an evening at the Petronas towers.

Last day in Lembongan, HUGE SURF
23/03/2011 Surf was absolutely pumping but probably a bit big for me, as it was my last day i paddled out anyway. High tide was approaching and waves were already starting to crash against hotel/restaurant walls. I had to sprint along sections of wall to get to the paddle-out point so I didn’t get taken out by an incoming wave. The surf was easily double-overhead when i got out there (way...

Dream Beach & the bridge to nusa Ceningan
22/03/2011 Early start but not so early by time we actually go off our arses and started walking. We walked through the first village and through forest up a few steep hills and bendy empty roads. Another village, lots more windy paved roads surrounded by nothing interesting, a poor tied up cow and we made it to dream beach.
Cove shaped with a huge crashing shore dump and unexceptionably...
